Tips for Golden Health During Your Golden Years

In the past century, life expectancy has increased by thirty years and is only continuing to rise. Have we finally found the fountain of youth? Well, not necessarily. While the human population may be living longer on average, our bodies still take a toll as we age – especially if we don’t make an effort to lead a healthy lifestyle. With that in mind, we’ve highlighted some of our favourite tips for golden health during your golden years.

Staying Golden During Your Golden Years

Although it may seem daunting, maintaining a healthy lifestyle after 60 is actually much easier than it seems.

  • Exercise regularly. While you may not be able to “drop and give me 20!” there are a plethora of exercises specifically designed for our wiser members of society. Swimming, walking, and golfing are also excellent ways to keep active at any age.
  • Maintain a healthy diet. It can not be stressed enough how important it is to eat right. A healthy diet is far more than simply eating enough or not overeating; it involves eating the right balance of foods. Malnutrition can lead to a sea of issues, such as a compromised immune system, muscle weakness, and even death. Taking supplements and vitamins can also ensure that you’re staying nourished.
  • Experiment with yoga. Yoga is an incredibly effective and relaxing way to improve strength, balance, and increase flexibility. The mountain, tree, and shavasana poses are just three of many simple and senior-friendly poses that could easily be incorporated into anyone’s day.
  • Schedule doctor’s appointments regularly. Routine check-ups are a vital part of staying healthy. A well-visit can aid you in your journey to keeping fit, as well as provide preventive care measures. It’s also important to consult your doctor before making any serious lifestyle changes.
  • Experiment with your hobbies. As you get older, you’ll find that you have more time on your hands. Rather than letting your mind wander, keep yourself busy and take it as an opportunity to pursue new hobbies. From scrapbooking to taking regular walks, or even playing chess, there are so many things that you can now focus on.
  • Discover new places. Traveling in the past year has looked different. But that doesn’t mean it should stop you from discovering new places when things are back to ‘normal’. Whilst hopping on a plane to Europe might be a bit difficult to do, there are plenty of places around Toowoomba, and even Queensland, that you can discover. Whether it’s a new coffee shop, a country-town, or a lavender field, there’s nothing like setting your eyes on a new sight!

Whether you’re motivated by loved ones or the idea of decreased medical bills, there are plenty of ways to stay golden during your golden years. As the average life expectancy continues to skyrocket, it’s important to make sure your health and overall wellbeing are able to keep up alongside it.
