Carnival of Flowers September 2019

The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers is an event featuring a floral parade, local food and produce, regional wines, entertainment and all things spring. The carnival first started in 1949 and was introduced as a way for the city to use their “Garden City” reputation to promote increased economic activity following the hardships of war.

For many years now Glenvale Villas has entered the event and this year will be competing in the “Commercial” section of the competition, up against businesses, hospitals, aged care facilities and retirement villages as well as the ‘Cobb and Co Hanging Basket’ competition. Previous years have seen Glenvale Villas take out second places and last year won in their category.

Each year our head gardener “Stewart Dorman” starts his preparation for the following year as soon as the event has been judged and the flowers have had their day. Stewart aims to make a statement and have a point of difference from one year to the next.

In the past he has created the ‘Rock Snake’ (where residents painted their own rock in a creative design which became the body of the rock snake) and the ‘Spilt Milk’ (a milk can fallen over with a splattering of white flowers representing spilt milk) to name a couple.

Last year Stuart created the ‘Secret Garden’ a wonderful quiet, tranquil area for residents and families to sit, relax and enjoy.  Beautiful water features enhance this area making it quite the place to relax and smell the roses, literally.  The many white icebergs roses fill the air with rich perfumes as you wander the paths.

This year Stewart’s theme is vibrant colourful gardens, full of rich blossoming flowers.  From the front entrance to the very end of the village stunning gardens have been created featuring a variety of plants and beautiful flowers.

Our renown topiary trees are always a huge winner with the judges and guests.  The vibrant orange tulip garden surrounding the cherub water feature is just one of the many spectacular features throughout the Glenvale Gardens.  Glenvale’s very own Veggie garden planted all year round with seasonable vegetables, herbs and fruits is also a big feature in the garden judging.

Stewart’s aim is always to provide a beautiful environment for the Glenvale Villas residents that allows them to be able to share with their families and friends – after all it is their home….

Pop in and experience the beautiful gardens at Glenvale Villas from the beginning of September to 19th September. We look forward to welcoming you to our home.
