As the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers approaches (September 21-30) we are excited to see our gardens beginning to bloom and there is definitely a scent of spring in the air.
It’s funny the way the smell of certain flowers evokes strong memories. For some, it is the scent of roses that take you straight back to grandma’s garden and the warm smile on her face. A whiff of Jasmine does it for us. It says everything about the end of winter and the beginning of more sunshine. The way it ebbs and flows on the breeze is teasing, leaving you longing for more and spending a few moments hunting out the vine responsible.
We’ve had some discussions at Glenvale Villas about how even flowers and plants have fashions. A decade ago, you wouldn’t be caught dead putting a Philodendron Xanadu in your garden. How about a ‘mother in law’s tongue’? Nowaways, people cannot get enough of them! It seems rather silly, considering how difficult it is to get some plants to grow, and how long they take to grow.
For those who have been around long enough to see a trend come, and go, and come around again, you realise how fickle it all is. It’s so much nicer to see a garden crafted from an individual’s unique perspective on their place and space, than a carbon copied manicured layout – even if it’s straight out of a magazine. Certainly, some of our green thumbed residents put on a splendid display in their gardens.
We are so proud of our Toowoomba location and look forward to seeing so many absolutely beautiful gardens. These gardens are lovingly tended all year round and the creativity and individuality of them is awe inspiring. We’ll be on the look out for any retro fashion trends and let you know what we spy!!
